Hunter Greens candidates to join Newcastle harbour coal blockade

What: People’s blockade of Newcastle harbour

Where: Horseshoe Beach, Greens camp

When: Sunday, 13 March, 11am to 1pm (blockade is from 10am to 3pm)

Whilst Greens candidates around the rest of NSW gather in Sydney for the party’s state election campaign launch tomorrow at Balmain Town Hall, Greens candidates from the Hunter will join hundreds of other local activists at the annual People’s Blockade of Newcastle Harbour, to protest against the exporting of climate change to the rest of the world through the world’s largest coal export port.

With less than two weeks to go until the NSW election, local Greens candidates will be using the blockade event to highlight the dismal failure of both the Coalition and Labor parties - and most local Independent candidates - to meet the challenge of climate change.

Greens candidates who have indicated they will be attending the blockade are:

Charmian Eckersley (Lake Macquarie)

Paula Morrow (Charlestown)

Keith Parsons (Wallsend)

Phillipa Parsons (Swansea)

James Ryan (Cessnock)

John Sutton (Newcastle)

These Greens candidates will be available for interviews at the blockade from approximately 11am to 1pm.
